Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is used to describe a process used by Australian education centers, regulators and career development professionals to assess the skills and knowledge that one acquires outside their classroom to recognize their abilities against certain skills, standards and learning outcomes.
Prior Learning assessment methods vary and the include assessment of various experiences that a student gains through paid or unpaid work, volunteer ship or actual workplace experience. The essential elements of RPL is that it evaluates an individual on the basis of evidences that are provided by them to support their application for competency against the set standards.
